I chose “Sea Battles” by Michael Sanderson, because I was deeply fascinated by the sheer amount of accurate information contained and neatly organized in this book. Not only did the author accurately describe the battles of sea using various diagrams and maps, but also he included many artworks (oil paintings, prints, etc.) in order to illustrate the battles and include how the battles were perceived and portrayed by the artists of the time. I find it very fascinating to look at the exact directions the battle ships travelled, the precise locations that the sea battles occurred, and how artists used shades to depict stormy weathers and burning ships. My favorite piece of artwork in on page 107—an engraving by Lambert Cornelisz. This chaotic but unique artwork gives each person included in the artwork distinct characteristics, making them come to life. There are many such artworks in this book, which gives it more value and meaningfulness.
